Jim Collis Whitesboro, NY Obituary,Death:Longtime Owner of Fred F. Collis and Sons, Dies At 86
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Collis, the longtime second-generation owner of Fred F. Collis & Sons, who died at the age of 86. Jim was not just a business owner; he was the steadfast heart of a community institution and a beloved family patriarch.
Jim’s life was inextricably linked to the family enterprise. He began his full-time dedication at just 18 years old, working alongside his father and founder, Fred F. Collis. In 1970, Jim and his brother, John, formally took the helm, purchasing the business and cementing their role as the second generation to lead. For over six decades, Jim poured his energy into the company, not merely as a job, but as a vocation. He proudly upheld the foundational principle his father established: unwavering customer care.

His devotion extended seamlessly from his customers to his family. A proud moment for Jim was witnessing the smooth transition of the business to the third generation—his sons Paul, John, and David—who now manage daily operations. He was even more gratified to see a fourth generation, Bryce, David, and Sam, beginning to learn the trade, ensuring the Collis legacy would endure.
Jim remained active in the office until recently, stepping back only after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
To honor Jim’s life, visitation will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Whitesboro on Friday, March 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following. We invite friends, customers, and community members to join us in celebrating a life remarkably lived and a legacy that will continue to serve for generations to come.
